Preventive Maintenance and Fluid Analysis: What the Program Covers

The short answer

Our preventive maintenance program puts every service your operator’s manual calls for on a schedule, at a fixed price, on your job site or in our shops. That covers oil changes, filter replacement, machine inspections, and fluid analysis. We keep the service record, which backs up a warranty claim and raises the trade-in value. Fluid analysis is the part that pays off before anything breaks, and you can do it on your own with a kit from us, on any make and model.

What the program does

The program follows the intervals in each machine’s manual, so nothing waits on someone remembering the hour meter. Our technicians do the oil changes, the filters, the inspection, and the fluid sample, at your job site or in one of our shops, whichever fits the machine and the work. The price is fixed, so ask for it before you enroll. On a track machine, the program always includes an undercarriage evaluation.

Why the record matters

We keep a record of every service on every machine in the program. When a warranty claim comes up, the record shows the manufacturer the maintenance was done on schedule, and when you trade the machine in, the next owner sees the same thing.

What fluid analysis catches

Every lubricated part wears a little as the machine runs, and the particles end up in the oil. A laboratory can read them. Normal wear leaves a predictable amount of certain metals, and a bearing going bad, coolant in the oil, or dirt past a filter each leaves its own mark. That shows up in the sample long before you hear or feel anything, so the repair happens on your schedule instead of the machine’s.

In the program, our technicians take the sample. On your own, buy a fluid analysis kit from us. It has everything you need, with instructions, to take samples of the oils, the coolant, and the fuel and send them to a certified laboratory, and the report comes back with alerts and recommendations. Send a set in at your service intervals, or every six months. One sample is a snapshot, and the trend over several is what tells you the most.

Between visits

The program doesn’t replace the daily walkaround. Check the engine oil, hydraulic oil, and coolant every day and top them off, look at the hoses and fittings for leaks, and grease the pivot points the manual lists. Fix a leak while it’s small, before it stops the machine.

How to enroll

Call the location nearest you with the machines you want in the program and their hour meter readings. Fluid analysis kits are sold on their own for the machines outside it.
