Identify Problems before They Result In Unplanned Downtime
- Plan regular inspections to prevent costly downtime
- On-site service and inspections are available
- Monitor your undercarriage regularly
- Respond quickly to repair and replace undercarriage components
The technicians at Kelbe Brothers Equipment are trained to identify issues with the undercarriage to solve any problems before major repairs are needed. Measuring the thickness of the undercarriage components is an important indicator of how long they will last before requiring replacement. Our preventive maintenance service always includes an undercarriage evaluation.
Tips for Maintaining Your Undercarriage

Check track tension daily
Component wear can accelerate when steel tracks are too tight, because it creates added load on contact areas. When a track is too loose, it can result in instability and possibly cause the tracks to derail, causing more wear on undercarriage components.

How to check your track tension
- Park your equipment on a level surface
- Raise the track off the ground by using the boom or bucket to lift the machine
- Measure the distance between the middle track roller and the top of the track
- The target range is generally between 15 mm and 30 mm or 0.6” and 1.2”
- If your gap between the middle track roller and the top of the track is outside of the target range, adjust tension by adding or releasing grease from the track tensioning cylinder

Follow a strict inspection schedule
Catching problems early is important in assuring your undercarriage is always ready to perform.

Maintain your undercarriage by cleaning it
At the end of every workday, operators should remove any mud or debris. During the winter months, wet material can freeze inside the track, potentially causing serious problems.
